My husband had the same problem and came up with the perfect solution. He let his beard grow! It's extremely sexy, and most mornings he gets a few extra minutes of sleep - or other morning activities. It's so nice for me having him have a nice silky beard instead of irritated skin, bumps, and (ick!) stubble.

First off, exfoliate before you shave, this is the most important thing if you want to stop those pesky ingrown hairs. You can get an exfoliating face wash, but often the granules in them arent' coarse enough to really do much, but I find St Yves face scrub really good. You can get it from boots, superdrug etc. Alternativly, wet the corner of a towel, wrap it round your finger and use that to exfoliate instead with a circular motion. When you shave, use a good razor and replace the razor head often. Don't use disposible razors, and don't leave your razor in the batheroom. The water and steam will cause rusting -not so much you can see but would knowingly you rub rust into you skin? Didn't think so! And anyway, it makes the razor last longer. Use a normal shaving lotion. Take time to shave, don't rush the job. Shave DOWN the way first of all - following the direction of growth, the shave against it if you want really really smooth - but TAKE YOUR TIME!!! Then use a good aftershave lotion that will sooth the skin. A REALLY good one is made by Kiehl's. It's a toner and you get get it at Space NK for definate. Kiehl's make VERY good shaving products for men and the have a return policy if you find the product isn't working for you. You can also buy them online, but if you can get to Space NK the staff will help you with what you need. Also, in the winter, use a moisturiser with SPF and in the summer use SPF anyway! Try all this, shaving rashes can get realy bad and infected. My friend had one so bad it looked like someone had cut his throat and he had to go on antibiotics for ages. Good luck and follw everything I said and it'll clear up in no time!!

I get problems with both of these and I've found that ingrowing hairs tend to happen if I leave my stubble to grow for too long.
Make sure that you are changing your razor blade regularly, a blunt blade is a sure way of getting a rash as you scratch it around on your face. Other than that your rash could be down to your technique. Get some warm water going, not scorching but not luke warm and splash in to your face a few times. This wil open your pores and make shaving easier. Next apply a good amount of foam and shave down your face only. Once your done, fresh water in the basin to splash on your face again. More foam and then shave up the face. If you get any rogue hairs just quickly cut them in the direction needed to get them.
When you shave you shouldn't need to apply much pressure with the blade.
As for moisturiser I like the Nivea for men Balm

i work in the perfumery and cosmetics dept of a large dept store and even the girls on my department (who work for companies such as dior, clarins, lancome, clinique etc...) use a product called Ingrowgo by skin doctors. Its an australian brand of problem skin products. I have used it myself and have found it to be very effective- it does cost apx £20- but its a big bottle and lasts a long time.
good luck

I use a Product called TendSkin every day, even if I don't shave. Not sure about its availability on the High Street, but if you use an online shop like Mankind, then you can order it or something similar

ok first of all to prevent them sheve w/ the grain of your hair. if your hair goes down shave down. that will prevent ingrown hairs. also change your razor to a venus divine. they give off lotion as they shave so they prevent rashes. next try nivea night affects cream. put it on at night and it will help your rash. or just let your rash run its course and then try preventing it.
