I like The Decemberists. out of the mainstream, interesting, the lead singer has a very interesting voice. tells a story most of the time, too.
you might like to try some little undiscovered bands. look up a band called Free Peoples. they have a myspace. good old/new fashion American folk. very nice for traveling.
have fun.

Just load everythng on!
If you looking for Rap, go for Tupac. songs are old but good listening wen you are relaxing or alone somewhere.

You can look for Luther Vandrous too if u want something to clam you down.

Michael Jackson is another you can cut your journey times listening too!
Madona, Mariah Carey, Whitney, all have cute songs. Black eyed peas.....

Usher, the beattles, jamiloquay,

And alot of dance hall reggae. Shaggy is a nice choice, Sean Paul is cool too.

they all can be listened to wen you are down and need something to put you in the mood of anything!
or just to relax and clam you down!

You could always get some books on CD then transfer them across to the Ipod.

Slipknots Subliminal Versus... I know you'll think its mega heavy but its actual got alot of great musianship and it goes from very mellow to aggressive to sombre to lively. Trust me.

Oh and the David Bowie point below is genius.
