If your mobile is less than 3 years old, then the IMEI will be tamperproof and cannot be reprogrammed.

To get the IMEI no to display press: *#06#
Then compare it to the IMEI on the sticker underneth the battery. If the two are then same then you have an "original phone" i.e. not stolen or been re programmed in anyway.
If the sticker looks like its been tampered with then maybe something has been done. But the stickers are almost tamper proof and it is very obvious if any one has.
