I am originally from Michigan, and went to college in Nashville. Made the trip many many times.
Take I-65 North out of Nashville to Indianapolis. Pick up I-69 North at Indianapolis and take it straight to Lansing. It's about 535 miles.

I would think I-75. Once you get into Michigan get to I-96 and take that all the way to Lansing.
Where are you going in Lansing? If downtown you will want 494.

It's about a eight hour drive by car, probably a lot more by bus due to stops. Flying, an hour or so.
