At first I was thinking of this along humorous lines, but then I realised that it is a serious question. Ithought that you would need everyone's IQ, work out the average and then calculate the percentage - and it could be high (99%? theoretically perhaps). Anyone got the figures and would make the effort? Silly and serious alike, very welcome.

well if a 100 people answered 100 questions and 1 person got all 100 right and the other 99 got no questions right then 99% would be below average because the average would be higher than 0.

I'm sure that this question is some kind of oxymoron in someway or another.

I'm going to say 49. whatever %. Assuming average intelligence is measured by the most number of people who have a certain level of intelligence then it is not possible for the number of people below this level to outnumber them as this would surely make them the average and the others, above average. So 49.99999% is the highest as this means they are still outnumbered, any higher and they would become the average themselves.

I hope all that makes sense.

Depends on the maimum intelligence levels - like any average, the location of the data on both sides of the middle affects the location of the average - like the balance point on a pair of scales.

Ask a Sun reader, and knowing each other, as they all do, an essential networkinging system with just one rain cell to go around, and when they count up their numbers, there you go, you have an answer.

Mind you, and if you really want to get a more accurate number, add in all Mail, Express and Star readers. Yes, it's the same network, and yes, same brain cell.

Define your average - if you mean Arithmetic Mean, then 50%. Mode or Median could be slightly higher, but will almost certainly be 50% as well.

I would say that at a guess one third. That would leave one third of average intelligence one third above and the rest bloody clever!

Everyone seems to think it`s 99.9% of the USA so that must be the answer and i think the remaining 0.1% of Americans think that`s right too!

Assuming average intelligence is 50% then I guess 49.999%.
