We have been ttc for a year unassisted, and no luck. I made an an appointment for a consult with my military doctor (PCM) and got a referral to the infertility doc on base. I don't know what to expect or ask. Someone PLEASE help me. I have looked everywhere and searched everything I can think to search for "Military TTC." Already been to TryingToConceive.com's discussion board but it's all Tricare red tape questions. I want to know what will happen at the doctor visits? What kind of tests will I go through? That tests will they make DH take? About how long will it take to get anything done? Are there things I should or shouldn't say to Tricare or a doctor so I can get things done faster? I have so many questions and am just generally lost. I really need some direction here. Even if you aren't military, but you have been through this before, I would really like advice. I need someone to talk to, this is all so incredibly new to me. My consult with my PCM was Wednesday, Oct 25th. HELP ME

Has your husband checked his sperm count....before you go on with examing yourself more?

Your First Infertility Doctor's Exam
Making the decision to see a fertility doctor can be a very difficult decision. Add to that the sometimes long waits to get in for an appointment and the sense of the unknown when it comes to what happens at the actual appointment can make you really nervous going into the appointment.

Typically you will have a fairly lengthy visit. You will be asked to go over your complete medical history. Sometimes you will give your medical history, and that of your partner, to a nurse who works at the fertility clinic. Then you will go over the information with the doctor. Other practices will have you give that medical information directly to the reproductive endocrinologist with whom your appointment is with.

This information gathering phase is a very important part of the infertility work up.

It can provide your doctor with many clues as to what is going on with your body or your partner's body. Though the information is not the only thing that is going to be done. Aside from information gathering you will also have to have a physical portion.
The physical examination will likely include several parts. This will include a pelvic examination. It may also include a pelvic ultrasound. Your partner may be asked to give a sperm sample to run a semen analysis on. Depending on where you are in your cycle they may do blood work for certain hormones or possibly a generic blood work up for things like thyroid function, anemia, infection, etc.

If you have additional information on your menstrual cycle such as ovulation prediction kits (OPK) charts or from other means of fertility charting this information should also be given to your fertility doctor at this time.

You will most likely need to make another appointment to come back to discuss the results from all of the testing. From there you will help decide what is the best course of treatment for helping you achieve pregnancy.

You are on the road. Go see the doctors and have the tests done as they want and then see what the results are.

No big deal about finding out. The tests are not difficult and will tell you a lot.

Your husband will also have to have tests done so you need to talk to him and have him go do it.

No need to be worried or scared. You didn't conceive before so it could not be anything worse than that you two can't conceive. Anything else would be a plus.

This is as a side note to all of the questions you've asked above.

Try to get your hands on a book called "How to choose the sex of your baby"

Not only does it guide you on how to select timing to encourage a particular gender it also has many vital points about ovulation and conception in general.

WOW, THAT'S A TOUGH ONE. WELL, REALIZE THAT EVEN THOUGH YOU'VE BEEN WAITING A LONG TIME FOR A BABY, IT MAY TAKE LONGER THAN YOU LIKE, THAT'S JUST WHAT MAKES THE ARRIVAL MORE REWARDING. YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND NEED TO BE TESTED. HIS IS EASIER AND, PERHAPS FOR HIM, A LITTLE MORE FUN THAN YOURS, AND THAT RESULT WILL TELL YOU WEATHER OR NOT YOU EVEN NEED TO BE CHECKED. WHAT THE DOCTORS VISIT WILL CONSIST OF? I DON'T KNOW, BUT IF YOU END UP WITHOUT THE ABILITY, MAYBE YOU COULD CONSIDER ADOPTION. ANYWAY, GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING.

I am ex Airforce and they really are not like the Army that handles children well. The Airforce frowns somewhat on families and actually tried to get us to have a vasectomy when we were in basic training...sheesh give me a break Uncle Sam...lol
Honestly, in your situation, I think that if you take your time and let nature call, you will be pregnant in no time, but if you stress about it, your just holding up the weeble.
