I want to know how adding a casino to your city or town has affected the community.
The Narragansett Indian tribe has been trying for over a decade to get approval to build a casino- while the RI government seems to try to find any excuse to prevent this. This issue is finally on the ballot for voters to decide. I would like to know how a casino might affect my state.

What I really want to know is: has it helped or hurt the economy? Have more business gone up around the casino? Have people in local resaurants lost their jobs because now people eat in the casino, rather than go outside the casino?

To Mom of Four- I have been to both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. I love both establishments. I am looking for opinions of people that live in those communities where casinos already exist.

As far as people with gambling problems- gambling existed before the casinos in the form of scratch tickets and keno.

two main casinos in Cardiff, absolutely jam packed every night, makes loads and loads of money but can't really do much good for the people can it?

Well of course there are pros and cons
I mean it's very common for people to become addicted (my grandmother for example is hooked and goes there probably about 5 times a week).
The casino is right next to a big complex in atlantic wharf where there a loads of restaurants and cinema and bowling etc. Business certainly hasn't gone down from any of the restaurants, in fact I think people prefer to sit down in restaurants rather than eat in the casino.

The thing is, I live in the UK, so I'm probably not much use to you.

Here in the middle of nowhere we have a tribal casino. It doesn't draw a huge number of people in because it's so far removed from any large population center (about 550 miles north of Detroit). The casino has provided a plethora of low-paying jobs (not great jobs, but definitely better than nothing) which has resulted in the unemployment rate on the reservation going down. The casino also allows for a larger budget for tribal social services (it is not a "per cap" tribe). The down side is that we have lost several businesses due to business owners with gambling problems including our only Mexican restaurant, an auto repair shop and others. Also, I know of at least one individual with an embezzlement problem to fund her gambling addiction. So the short answer is that the casino has brought both good (social services and jobs) and bad (lost private businesses and crime).

Kansas City, has many different opportunities, it really depends on your flavor for fun. Worlds of Fun has a water park and it's full of excitement. It's also close to Harrah's and the Ameristar Casinos. They both are located on I-29 off of Front Street. Nearby is the Argosy Casino. Take I- 6-35 and head into Kansas. Where you can find many outlet shops and good food at the Legends. Located off of State Ave. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. Also check out the Jazz, barbque and fun in Westport, right off Broadway and Main in Missouri. Have Fun !
