WE did at one time. BUT in my opinion not any longer. Yes we are still America and yes we are still a free nation. (at least for now) BUT every single day we are LOSING all so many of our freedoms by our dictatorship government. We are too quickly becoming what we have fought against for many many years now. And it is such a shame that WE the PEOPLE don't see this. WE the PEOPLE had better wake up before it is too late. TIME for a CHANGE in our DICTATORSHIP.

oh man what a question well in my opion we are a free country but as far as being the freest well may be and may be not i mean we are constantly trying to define ourselves and redefine the constitution well we do try to keep this country a free one . as far as some other countries goes then i would have to say yes fore two reasons . I really don't see as much debate over the governing of a country as i do here and i see on a daily bassis. elections are soon approaching and well once again we are examining ourselves oh boy

Some countries enjoy America's benifits without the hassle of fighting it's battles. Like Sweden for instance, rich, no terrorists, hot chicks all over, same freedom of speech and religion. Just flying under the radar. America is on top and there will always be everyone else trying to pull it down with endless criticism saying America is not free. It is....much more than my country, and any other country I have been to.

Free......
That's an interesting concept and depends on how you view being free and what that entitles you to do.
In simple terms yes they do. In more complicated ones the guys in Afghanistan who can grow smack and kill who they like are freer to do what they like.
Try saying the words "terrorist" "bomb" or "Bush is an idiot" on a cell phone in the states and see how free you are then. It's the same in the UK all calls are monitored for certain words and when they are said the call is recorded and the secret service gets to hear them.
That person who mentioned the 3rd world above is spot on. Laws everywhere for everything and no trust. Then again the third world is totally free from corruption and crime isn't it. NO evil dictatorships there are there....
I guess freedom is relative to how you view being free at the end of the day.

I don't think we are the freest or the fairest which I believe shows the lack of integrity of our leaders. For example, a couple of years ago legislation was passed by congress that allow, among other things, for banks to clear checks electronically so they can be cleared in one day rather than several days. However, if you deposit a check in your bank that is from another bank they won't allow you to withdraw the funds for anywhere from three to seven days even though they cleared the check in one day. Where the hell is the equity in that?

Democracy in America is a misconception. America is a republic and it always will be. You call a country that opens up a torture prison in Cuba democratic?? Again, I understand tha tthe government is different from the people. The American people are great but the government needs to go...

Nothing is free in America, just try to use a baggage trolley without paying when you arrive at any airport.
