A rag quilt is really more of a technique than a pattern. It involves sewing pieces together so that the seam allowance is exposed on one side, and is usually made from flannels (because the weave is looser and allows the seam allowance to fray). You can adapt any simple block pattern to a rag quilt technique - just make the block larger, so you have a quilt made from only four or six blocks. You can even take a fairly complex block and make it huge - so the entire quilt is made of the one block. This looks really nice with star designs, which would fit right in to your Christmas theme.
As far as making it a Christmas quilt, fabric choice makes all the difference. A variety of red and green fabrics, with some gold, black or white accents, is all you need.
The first link below is to a photo of a rag quilt, and the second link is to the PDF instructions. The third link is to the website where I got them, since it has many other free patterns you might want to check out. After that, there are several links for star patterns that could be adapted to a large block rag quilt.
As far as free pattern sites, Quilters Cache is the best for individual blocks. Minimal advertising and HUGE variety - she has over 1500 blocks in all styles, from traditional piecing, to paper piecing, to applique. You can also check the websites of the fabric manufacturers - all of the big names have at least a few free patterns, and some have dozens. These are especially nice because the instructions are professionally done, and there are NO advertisements. Just look at the selvages of your fabrics and google the manufacturer's name. For example, Moda, P&B Textiles, Benartex, Timeless Treasures, Maywood Studios, Michael Miller, etc. Look on their page for a link to patterns.

Hi there! Here are a few sites that may help you find what you are looking for. The first one is for a rag quilt in a red/green theme. You could easily use red/green holiday prints to make this a Christmas quilt. The second site is for some free quilting patterns. And the third a is a directory of free quilting pattern sites. I hope this helps!! Happy Quilting!!
