Well I think neither of them. No.3 is such a slot where you need a batsman who has perfect technique, need to score bit quickly, don´t need to go after every delivery. So, if you look at Dravid, he can´t score even 50 off something close to 60 balls. But he is a batsman with sheer class, perfect technique. And at the other hand if you take a look at Pathan, he hasn´t greatest of techniques, sometime gets out while playing with horizontal bat, will go after every delivery which cramps him for room. But, he has done his job quite beautifully, also scored a lot of runs at no.3. But I think India needs someone like VVS Laxman, Jaffer or either Mongia. If you ask me: I would go with Mongia. I was really impressed with his stroke making. He actually has developed his Cricket. I was actually surprised with his stroke making, such attacking. He was one of the easiest batsman of India to get the wicket of (when he used to play for India). But since he has comeback from England county Cricket, he is really changed. He just got carried away and lost his wicket, but in Malayasia, he played a wonderful knock. He can also bowl well. So, to me: He is the perfect no.3 batsman for India.

Rawal.

Selection of player to bat at No. 3 will depend upon the status of the match when the first wicket fall. I think that if the first wicket falls after a couple of overs and the rte of scoring is very low, you require a batsman to score runs at fast rate to bt at No. 3, in which case choice should be Pathan. However, if the score when the first wicket falls is healthy, Dravid should come in.
It all depends on the situation of the game and nothing can be pre-determined about batting order.

you are right boss, dravid is a batsman of great class he is one of the best around the world in no.3,but when our openers gonna smash whatever the get till power play starts or more to keep the rythm going on the team sends in pathan who is also pinch hitter, but as usual if our team stuglles b4 the powerplays ends (which mostly happends )dravid should put himself in to get indian team for safer score

he wud be playin' thr...i guess Mr. dictator chapell has finally understood it as waz evident in the last match we played.... pathan slogs and can only be among runs thru his sloggin'...which of'course is not possible on every pitch.....we r havin' all bowler friendly pitches in this champions trophy and the result is known to everyone.....

the technique that a player like dravid can bring at no.3 could never be brought in by someone like pathan.... specially if no.3 is forced to come in at early overs....
