I'm planning to stay for 4 nights in January. I like museums, beer, shopping, and lots of other things. I will also have a rental car, so fun things to do near Seattle would be appreciated too.

The basics are:
Pike Place Market - The Pike Place Market is a great place to wonder around, buy handmade souvenirs, get a snack, and see the very first Starbucks, etc.

Pioneer Square is home to the famous "Underground Tour" that leaves from Doc Maynards on the the corner of Yesler & 1st. It's a great tour that takes you under the city and teaches you about the history of Seattle in a very entertaining way! Also in Pioneer Square, there are many antique shops and other unique shops and restaurants...

Riding on a ferry - it's a true Seattle experience! The view of the city from the boat is excellent (bring your camera!) and the cost is a quarter of what you would spend on one of the Argosy Cruises. You can walk on as a passenger and the return trip is FREE! Here's a schedule:

The Waterfront has many shops and seafood restaurants. This is also home to the Seattle Aquarium, which is undergoing some renovations right now, but might be fun to visit anyway...

North of downtown is Seattle Center, home to the Space Needle. Since it's the landmark that Seattle is best known for, I'd highly recommend a stop there, even though it is a bit spendy. http://www.seattlecenter.com

Seattle's main shopping district is primarily on Pine Street/Pike Street between 3rd & 7th Ave. It's Seattle's version of Michigan Ave. in Chicago or 5th Ave. in NYC. Here's a few links:

If you like beer, there are several breweries that I'd recommend:
Pike Place Brewery - right in Pike Place Market
Elysian Brewing Co. - there's one on Pike Street on Capitol Hill or there's one in Tangletown in the Green Lake neighborhood.
Red Hook Brewery - in Woodinville (NE of Seattle), also a great place for wineries.

Two of my favorite museums (I love the Seattle Art Museum, but it's closed right now for renovations)...
Burke Museum

Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI)

Also, if you don't mind driving to Tacoma:
Washington State History Museum

Museum of Glass

I think that gives you more than enough to do!! :) HAVE A GREAT TRIP!

If you want to do something touristy, go see Seattle Center or ride the ducks. Definitely check out Pike Place Market. Outside of the typical tourist spots, you'll want to check out Alki Beach, Gasworks Park, and there are tons of great places to eat all over the city. A ferry ride is always fun. And if you come within the next few weeks we have a lot of different Seafair activities going on. Tomorrow is the torchlight parade with some pirates! Argh!

Drive North on I-5 thru Everett and Marysville. Shortly after Marysville, on the left are a whole bunch of Outlet Stores. There is a Casino up there too.
