Are Muslim leaders in Britain using our democracy and liberties to purport their religion and culture with the aim of supplanting all others? Does this represent an element intrinsic to expansionist religions that should be expected and accepted? What are the dangers (politically, socially and culturally) of aiding (Governmentally) conservative religions in what is primarily a secular state?

FYI Animalwor... Im not a Zionist, Im an atheist. Do not speculate or generalise. Secondly, if you're going to use history against Israel then just how far back to you want to go? Because it was Mohammed who rode West and "stole"/annexed land, murdered and forced conversions upon the Hebrew state, amongst others. So, I'll clean my backyard when the leaves fall off my trees as long as you learn your history before you try to use it.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. The dangers are

a) Politically

According to some views, there must be a separation of State and Religion. However, Religion has played a polarizing role. For religions and civil democracy to live together, what must be graciously accepted is that the political expression of one's religious faith does not have secular validity simply because individuals who hold these beliefs think they are divinely endorsed.

Secular government helps protect all religions in their diversity. And religions, by judiciously using their moral authority, can protect secular government in finding common ground for public action.

b) Socially

On the basis of social dominance theory (SDO) that
(a) men are more social dominance-oriented than women,
(b) High-SDO people seek hierarchy-enhancing professional roles and low-SDO people seek hierarchy-attenuating roles,
(c) SDO was related to beliefs in a lag number of social and political ideologies that support group-based hierarchy (e.g., meritocracy and racism) and to support for policies that have implications for intergroup relations (e.g., war, civil rights, and social programs), including new policies. SDO was distinguished from interpersonal dominance, conservatism, and authoritarianism

c) Culturally

(I would suggest to reads "John Street's book.") Johm Street Book departs from simple assumptions to examine the complex relationships that develop between politics and popular culture. He's careful enough to avoid simplistic or particular notions of popular culture and takes it as a multilevel concept whose meaning is ideologically constructed, and manages to cover all the gaps in the ways popular culture becomes political and politics becomes part of popular culture. Street considers three - though actually examining more deeply just two - angles of approaching the relationship between the two concepts. First, he considers how the meaning of popular culture is affected by political judgements "which implicitly separate high from low culture, the elite from the popular". Second, he defines popular culture as politics by examining how our responses (i.e. judgements, tastes) to cultural texts are part of our identity and how the pleasure and passions revolving around popular culture are a source for political thought and action. Third, he examines how politics has become part of popular culture as the latter has become a powerful medium for politicians to reach "the people". In this sense, both popular culture and politics have become entwined in ways that were not evident before as both are part of one world "in which all choices - moral, political, aesthetic - are essentially consumer, lifestyle choices, arbitrated by the laws of supply and demand". That is "the logic of populism, in politics and in culture".

Thank you

I do believe that Muslims want to segregate themselves from the rest of us because basically the Quran says that they should have nothing to do with those that don't believe that Allah is the only God or they should destroy us for that but they seem to want to avoid mentioning that these days for some reason.. being such a "peaceful" religion. So peaceful that all I see and hear from them is destroy Isreal.. zionist conspiracy blah blah blah. Personally I think the both of you lot are as bad as each other. Get on with destroying each other in the sand and leave us alone will you. We aren't bothered.

To the guy above.. actually it was the Europeans and incidentally the British who stole that land off the arabs and then gave it to the Jews after world war 2 due to the amount of Jewish terrorism and the fact that they couldn't be bothered with the arabs and the Jews fighting each other and them for a crappy peace of land worth nothing. Please read some history that is true not racist doctrine from your mosque. Some muslims sound like Hitler sometimes the way they rant on about Jews.

All religion is full of idiots. It's the Jews and the Muslims that are still living in the 16th century though. Backwards, dangerous and above all bloody stupid. Up to them. Just wish they didn't feel the need to drag us all into it.

To the guy two posts below me (yes I edited).. I know what you mean. They can rant on about what they like but the moment a white person with no religious ties says anything yahoo crap it and supress open debate. Then again upset us and you might get a punch. Upset a muslim or a Jew and it's some sort of holy war.

What you have to realise is that all religion is intrinsically expansionist. Did Christianity not force conversion through Crusades, through Witch Trials and other means? Christianity literally put the fear of God into people by slaughtering millions in Gods name. The Expansion of the Muslim religion is not being done through war while the maintenance of "our" way of life is being conducted through wars of oppression and through other means. So you are right that Muslims are using democracy to support their religion but this is a double edged sword. When you use democracy to attract followers then they expect that democracy to be maintained. It kind of goes against what many people say the Muslim religion - that they are anti democratic etc. In Britain the Muslim religion seems to integrate well with democracy.

In any true secular state the Government will not have a role to play in aiding or otherwise moderating a religion. You have to remember that Protestantism (Anglican Church) is the primary religion of England and thus receives most support and most voice both from and in government. The main difference between Islam and other Christian religions is that Muslims take their religion seriously whereas for the most part only fundamental Christians take their religion seriously.

The dangers are simple you would end up in a non secular state .
In the thirty's in Germany, after a rather futile attempt at revolution. The Nazis used the ballot box to win power.

Once achieved all other party's were outlawed, and a one party state with its own spin on daily life, law,and religion was developed . We all know of the Holocaust and how the 6 million Jews, Gypsy's and any one who did not buy in, were treated.

That was only 60 odd years ago. It could happen again, it did in Bosnia. Stop them Now. The political correct brigade will legislate and vote them in. Only a bloody revolution could get them out, and only then if we were to win. Lets not turn the UK into a bastion of middle ages theology and doctrine. Join us by all means don't dare to try to rule us.

You need to judge them by what they themselves say. For militant muslims, they have a twenty year plan to bring the west down and set up an islamic caliphate. We are now five years into this and things are not going well for us. Other more moderate muslims still fundamentally believe that non-believers are decadent and lost, and either need to be converted or killed. They do want to use their current population as a foot in the door, in which they will wedge it open and make Europe an Islamic outpost. It is our duty to be aware of this.
