I know times have changed. Women have to work etc. But all these crime shows on TV etc. show women who deal with horrific crimes that ladies 50 years ago would have fainted dead away at even reading about them! I still feel a BIT like a woman who would like to be shielded and looked after, are you all REALLY so tough and hard?

Many ladies have changed. Not sure where all the kind sweet ones have gone? I think life is difficult today and its made alot of them cold.

Juliette, I am many things. I have a career first of all, not a job. I had to weld in a factory to make a decent living for my child when he was small. Why, because secretarial jobs didn't pay enough to take care of the day care bill Food, rent, toys, medicine, car payments etc. etc. etc. Since "Dad" was out of the picture completely by the time my son was three I went back to college, got a degree in nursing, and made a life for the two of us. I'm not exactly sure what the "crime" shows on TV have to do with ladies changing so much. If you are asking if we are all as tough as those officers on television, no!! I think women do what they have to do to move forward in life and take care of themselves. I think there is a part of every woman that wants to be shielded and looked after. Unfortunately the only man that I have found that I could totally depend on, well, he married my mother 54 years ago!!!

I think it's the media =)

Women have always been, I dunno what's the word...brave?...since the start of civilization. But the point is, we've always been working -- inside our house, out in the fields, etc. Other countries traditionally view women at the same level as men. And definitely not 50 years ago, crime would have been even more violent before that, and women have also been working before that -- learning about the Industrial Revolution from the late 1800's to early 1900's could give you a start, then you could go backwards from there.

working hard does not make you less of a woman
being brave does not make you less of a woman
taking up roles traditionally dominated by men does not make you less of a woman
being able to have greater choices as women today is what has changed...we are still women, with the same emotions, the same needs,...we still like to be shielded and looked after but we don't mind having to do it for ourselves either

And ladies a hundred years ago worked as midwives, worked in the fields, worked on farms, and dealt with any number of day-to-day horrors. It's not that different.
