It would probably get complicated, especially now with several major conferences having split into two divisions and featuring a conference championship game. I know SEC, and Big 12 do this, I think ACC and Big East as well. Big 10, Pacific Coast Conference do not, to my knowledge. There's six conference champions right there who would almost certainly have to go to any playoff. Any time Notre Dame has a good year the TV people are going to want them in there, so that leaves one more spot for a neat 8 team playoff system. This would take 2 weeks to complete (3 weekends) if there was no break like they usually do for the Superbowl, I certainly wouldn't be in favor of a break. So those last two teams would play at least 15 , maybegames assuming a 12 game regular season. Some SEC teams play 12 games, the conference championship would make a 13th game before they even got to a playoff.

I was so confused a few years ago when they said that there were 2 number 1 teams in the college polls . If it comes down to having 2 teams that are ranked # 1 then yes there should be a playoff system . I think that they should make the BCS into a type of playoff .

I think that something will happen along the lines of a playoff. There is just too much interest. I don't know how though. They are still college athletes and their studies are more important, so a playoff would come around exam time and could really mess things up. Something has to be done though. When you have more than 3 unbeatens, one team will be slighted. The media and their rankings are based on making for better TV. Some teams aren't exciting enough to pull in audience. Something will be done, I don't how to keep all happy though.

Arguments against it: It decreases the impact of the regular season. Really? It doesn't seem to matter in the current state, all that really matters in the current system is the team. It will cost schools money. I think going to a playoff system would keep revenues pretty much the same. Think about it- more games, more ticket sales, more concessions sale = profit. Arguments for it: It guarantees the best teams play for the title. Agree. It gives every team that is worthy of playing for the title a chance to make it. Agree. Will it ever happen? Probably not.

There definitely needs to be a playoff system that will deliver the true "best" team of the top 25.

i don't think that the ncaa wants to do that simply because there is more money to be made by having all these different bowl games that have all these different sponsors and whatnot although there should be a playoffs just to eliminate any and all doubts about who really is the best team every year

I along with the majority of fans agree with you. However, it means dismantling a bit of the bowl series and there's the rub. They keep bringing the issue up and shooting it down. Hopefully it will happen but I do not look for it to happen any time soon.

What people are going to realize is what Univ. of Michigan fans and OSU fans have know for years - there is only one real national championship game every year and that is always the U of M vs OSU game. That is always the best football and it is the best rivalry in college sports. Strangely it is only ESPN (the sports network) that seems to understand this through their commercials.

There may eventually be, but it is probably going to take at least a few more years. Nothing ever seems to happen fast with stuff like that.

Only when it benefits the coffers of the BCS conferences. It's all about the benjamins and the BCS conferences are raking them in! They don't want to share the pie with the Mountain West, MAC, Conference USA, etc...
