I have played dvd's on my computor before but now they will not play. Windows media acknowledges them but will not play them.

try any other DVD playing programme other then Windows Media player.
Sometime it works

There could be a number of reasons.

1. Have exceeded the number of regional changes for the dvd drive?
2. Are the dvd's bootleg?
3. Is your dvd drive dirty and needs cleaning?
4. Is the format supported by your media player? You could download plugins to support more file types.

It could be either a hardware or software fault but you need to to examine your laptop further.

DVDs need a dvd disc reader. Also need a program that has video, like real player or something, a video card, and require enough memory. So check to make sure that all these are working properly.

you might be missing a driver or codex
