And i put it in the paper hoping that the thief would see it and feel remorse of some kind.
And a person sent our scout group $200 towards our loss.
I want to find him and thank him but he didnt leave a return address and i loooked on the net for his name in telephone directories and on google to no avail.
I even sent a letter into the paper to thank the man but they havent printed it.
Can someone out there let me know how to find someone that cant be found?

I think your good samaritan wants to remain anonymous. You can try to contact the paper again, or even post a small ad in the paper to thank the person.

Otherwise, be grateful that someone cared enough to try to help out.

Sorry for your loss.

Most thieves do not feel remorse and probably will not return the money in fear of prosecution. Your generous giver probably wants to stay a secret and probably knows you are grateful. Zaba search is pretty good, but he may have given a false name so you don't contact him.

If the person wanted a public thank you they would have given the money up front.

Since they didn't there's really nothing you can do.

I'm surprised the paper wouldn't follow up on this story....the editor is not being smart.
