Why did so many people say when they voted on the machines, the other candidate was actually chosen, not the one they entered into the machine?

I don't think so. But at the same time, there's no reason to blindly trust software programs. Every software program ever written is full of mistakes called bugs, some are corrected and others are not. because they are insignificant. If the voting software is like every other software program, it will contain bugs, the only question is: will the bugs create minor problems or major ones?

To answer your other question about a discrepancy between what people reported, I'm not familiar with the story. But some people are just dumb. My recollection from the 'hanging chad' election of 2000 is that there were plenty of voters on both sides that couldn't figure out how to vote...

No the republicans didn't, but the companies that make and program them did. (I AM NOT A LIBERAL NOR A DEMOCRAT, NOR A REPUBLICAN) I am a Conservative and as such I believe in Democracy and having all voters cast one vote that is then independently, publicly and verifiably counted. I need to see an independent paper trail.

That does NOT happen in the USA.

Once you have pressed the button, the computer code can do whatever it likes with that vote, discard it, switch it, whatever. Then the code, after tallying the vote to pre-designated results, can delete itself.

I am a software engineer, believe me, this is EASY! I will never EVER trust any electronic voting system ever, especially not one coded up in secret, compiled as propriatary software by known supporters of one side!

You do not know what happens to your vote once it has been cast. Unless you have seen every line of raw code, and understand all the executable routines, you have NO WAY of knowing what that machine does with your vote. you are basically having to throw your vote in the air and then having to TRUST that it will be counted fairly and honestly.

An election is something too precious to be based entirely on trust.

The people that make and program (in secret compiled code) these election machines are very pro republican and promised to deliver the votes to the republicans in Ohio in 2004.

That in itself is a very dodgy deal.

Big Business is a CORRUPT business and there is not much bigger than running the country.

Republicans, ask yourself, if a pro democratic party company owned and made and programmed (in secret) these machines, and delivered a result in a KEY state to the democrats, by a percentage far outside what was shown in the exit polls. AND that company had promised before the election that it would deliver the votes to the democrats? WOULD YOU SMELL A RAT? be Honest!

If you listen to many Democrats they all are. To date no one has been indicted or convicted of rigging voting machines. So my answer would be a no. Now if someone shows actual facts of this practice occurring I will be happy to amend my opinion. Remember, I say actual facts, not the fantasies which pass for facts on many liberal blog sites.

I have not actually heard any credible claims of what you suggest, but let's examine it based on facts.
If you have voted on electronic machine then you know that your selections are presented to you before they are saved. At this point you have the option to change them. If you saw that the machine selected the wrong candidate you could change it. If it would not change then you would report it to a poll worker. At this point the machine would be checked and closed if necessary. The poll worker would have no choice but to do this because failure to do so would constitute knowingly suborning voter fraud. This is a federal felony. Sorry the contention supposes that all poll workers are involved in a conspiracy, or that voters are not reporting discrepancies at the time when they occur. Either way it doesn't pass the smell test.

You just can't seem to understand that the Republicans have no need to rig voting machines. That kind of crap spews directly from the Democratic Party Ministry of Propaganda because you just can't get over the fact that more people vote Republican than Democrat.

I think we need a paper trail and not a hard drive trail. The Dem"s are the cheaters when it comes to voting and we need to have the hard proof when it comes to elections.

We need to keep elections clean and be able to track the votes and you cannot do that with computer voting.

I would pref err the punch card over computer voting

Hard to say, but it certainly seems suspicions that the maker of said machines, Diebold (of ATM fame) is one of the GOP's biggest corporate sponsors.

Kinda makes you go Hmmmm ...

Don't even bother voting. Bush and other presidents are elected ONLY by THIS secret and evil group that's been in control of everything for far too long!...
