Because the economy is being impacted by the environment now, politicians are getting concerned. Why do they not care about the environment until it hits their wallets? Are people really that self centred and selfish?

Politicians are selfcentered and selfish, that is a sure thing. Environmental concerns to them is a long term thing, they wont be there when the crap hits the fan. Do you think they care about the next generations? no sir, they sure do not.

Doing something about it will cause a great deal of problems to them. By passing tougher laws and banning certain industries they will face the rage of the mightly multinationals and medium sized industrial billionaires. These people are willing to take their business else where, countries where environmental laws will allow them to work without any restrictions and believe me a lot of countries are desperate for foreign investments.

It is a dilemma, I do not think an individual action is sufficient. A global understanding and action is needed because what 1 country does, can surely affect the whole world. As for the current politicians, they will never bother.
