I think going away for a weekend somewhere is nice, it doesn't have to be costly, but it gives a special memory to keep forever.
For example, for my boyfriends birthday, I brought him a ticket to a rugby match with a package weekend at a nice hotel with a pool and spa etc..... we really enjoyed it and it makes you feel really special.
Look up weekend packages in Paris/Belguim or even a boutique hotel near you.
You will never forget it and hopefully never regret it!

Consider making him somethinig that symbolizes the years you have been together. A memory book full of pictures, movie stubs, and mementos of things you have done together. It is unique, thoughful and not costly. Leave space in the book to add new memories and close to the last page insert tickets to a sporting event, a movie, a show or something he may like to see. The experiences you share are far more memorable and important than anything you can buy him. And with a death in the family this is the type of gift that will remind of what is truly important in life. The people you love.

When I'm stuck I buy a little gadget called 20Q. It's a small toy that guesses the item that you are thinking about & mostly gets it right - it's quite addictive and costs less than £10

Why not name a star in his name.I see it advertised all the time.I don't know how much it cost you do get a letter registering his name to one.I think that would mean something of how you feel about him.Look it up and let me know how you make out.

You could buy him a star - I think it's about 50 pounds. Then the star is named after him and you get a certificate and a map of the stars so you can locate it. I think its really sweet.

A personalised photo album - which you can fill together. Or even a silver picture frame with a nice picture of both of you!

Cook him his favourite meal, laid on with nice wine (or lager if he prefers!). Steak and chips or something simple. Don't forget the crackers!
