I am bipolar. I didn't sleep well before the doc prescribed meds, and I thought it wasbecause my mind wouldn't stop when I laid down to sleep. Now when I lay down to go to sleep, I still can't sleep, and I am just bored. Come to find out my mind was keeping me busy until I fell asleep. So what do I do now, cuz my mind isn't keeping me busy anymore when I am trying to sleep. If I am lucky I get maybe 4-5 hours of sleep a night. Otherwise, I am in good physical health. And the meds the doc prescribed are suppose to make you drowsy. Doesn't matter how tired I am, the minute I lay down, I can't sleep. And sleep aids don't work either, we tried those. So what do I do now?

I was diagnosed with bipolar way before it ever became trendy, like 20 years ago and it was after very complete testing.

MAN..you SOUND all wound up! I choose not to sleep alot of the time to sculpt and regenerate/energize good energies. It is sooo peaceful when everyone else is sacked out. Also the lack of electrical energies are soothing...If you were able to train yourself to enjoy the calm, you might be at ease enough to sleep. I know you probably are aware that the power of the mind is amazing!! If I have not slept enough, I just talk myself into feeling rested...It may sound somewhat out there, but it works for me! Using sleep aids do not enhance the body's' ability to rest. It forces you into a different phase of sleep and skips the important aspect of REM.. Have you ever tried warm milk...(if you aren't lactose intolerant), warm milk works, chamomile tea is great and some mineral combinations can also "tranquilize" naturally -Calcium/Magnesium is a good one. Do some research on natural remedies. If all else fails....Pick up a Physics book (that always puts me out!) LOL

Good Luck!

Sigh. Bipolar is the latest "trendy" diagnosis. What ADD was years ago. It's how the Dr's get you in and out of their offices fast for billing. They fill out a prescription and give you a little pep talk and outcha go. Let's just say there is nothing wrong with you. Try having a good hard workout, then don't eat before going to bed, get comfortable and learn some relaxation techniques. Bet you sleep like a rock.

Try to be relaxed before you sleep and don't do any rigorous physical activities before you sleep. Drink a glass of warm milk and have a nice, relaxing bubble bath. Also, play some soothing music. Best wishes and Happy Halloween!

Practice meditation once to twice daily. This will settle your mind. Sustained exercise thoroughly exhausts the body. It will ultimately calm the mind.

You need to speak with your physician regarding this issue, he/she can try some new medications until you find one that is helpful. You may have built a tolerance to the current medication your taking, this happens. good luck and God bless
