Tony Blair is talking about introducing Green Taxes. What is he going to do with the money? Does anyone think he will use it to help people get more green with wind turbines / solar panels etc, either for individuals or nationally?

I suspect it will just disapear into the big black spending hole and make no difference to green issues at all. If it was used to help people go green that could make sense but it doesn't as it stands.

What do you think?

Good shout!

Of course it is just an excuse to rake in money but if it encourages us to use less energy then that's gotta be a good thing.

Well it could be specifically allocated to only green initiatives. If it were put into accounts for only green spending kind of like how employment insurance and social security type funds are only used for those purposes. But any government that introduces a gree tax and just puts those monies into general tax revenue, then for sure the money is as good as gone, at least a large portion of it.

GREEN TAXES WILL ONLY BE GREEN TAXES IF THE MONEY IS RING-FENCED AND ONLY USED FOR GREEN PURPOSES.

We should remember that 'road tax' was to be spent on roads. This does not happen today.

We have heard nothing about how the cash is to be spent. I wonder why. How about a great big modern recycling plant and incinerator for London in the green belt or being able to drink Thames water at Tower Bridge?

Of course it is just an excuse! What should be happening is that all the inventions that the oil conglomerates have bought out should be brought out into the public domain
This green tax is of course going to pay for pensions etc. that the English parliament needs..

The money has been, apparently, sectioned off for Green Agendas, and good luck too them.

Personally, i think the Green Taxes serve a point. If you won't voluntarily cut your waste and car useage, then the government has to attack you where it hurts
