My health visitor advised me on this, at the end of every meal, let your baby just play with his beaker of water and he will soon learn how to use it. It works, he is starting to get the hang of it, he just needs to remember to tip it back.

My 2 children started drinking out of Doidy cups at about 6 months, they are slanted cups and they are supposed to be easy for breast feed babies. Some beakers are really hard to get the drink out of, we went through loads of different types and ended up with the doidy cup. It is messy to begin with but just put in a little water and show yours how to do it. I think makes them seem more grown up, like mummy and daddy. It took about a week to get the hang of it and now my 18 month old drinks out of a normal cup without spilling (most of the time)! If your little one doesn't like the taste make sure it's not too cold and just keep trying, he will drink eventually if he knows that's all that's being offered- they can be very stubborn!! If you want a cup with a lid Tommee Tippee ones are easy to use, we use them when we go out. Good luck!!

The best way to start is that give him some kind of juice in the beaker as it is nature of babies that they like sweet things. At start it might take sometime to familiarise him with this but slowly he will get up to it and start drinking from the beaker after that you can give other source of things like milk, water etc. hope u will get the answer

I just gave my kids a cup with some water (couple of ounces) to play with while I fed them solids. For us, the Rubbermaid "juice boxes" with the straws worked well. They didn't have to figure out how to tip it up and babies who are BF tend to do very well with drinking from a straw.

DON'T flavor the water or add juice or anything. Learning to drink plain water is good for them. My kids all prefer water to other drinks because it was what they were offered as babies with their solid meals.

Make sure that breastmilk stays the primary source of nutrition with solids mostly for fun and practice still at this age.

I just casually pretended to drink the water & acted like i was lovinn it & it only took a wee while for them to want what I had. My 4 year old daughter takes a cod liver oil capsule every day, she actually crunches it & enjoys it. If I forget she reminds me. She has done this since she was 10 months old. She has never had a days illness, not even a sniffle. All I done was give her older brothers their omega 3 capsules in front of her & she wanted the same. Kids always seam to want what everyone else has. Its the same principle with the water honestly.

you can buy a beaker from boots which has a beaker type end, rather than a teat, but its made from really soft rubber, so it makes the transistion a little easier, since a lot of beakers have hard tips. Mine used to have water on a baby spoon too, which is easier sometmes.

Fill the beaker with diluted juice, then progressively increase the amount of water over time until the baby is drinking just water

No Juice & No no added sugar drinks, when a baby has juice they longer want water, and as for drinks with no added sugar in the subsitute they use for sugar is like a laxative!
Just perservere, play with the bottle after you've fed your baby, show him/her how mummy drinks then try to guide them, failing that let the baby play with it whilst your clearing up. I wouldn't worry about it too much as you say your still breast feeding so your baby won't dehydrate.
good luck

just give your baby the opportunity when ever its time for drinks . Your baby will not grow up to be an adult who cant use a beaker . just be cool and let it happen natuaraly and dont worry too much about spills and wet clothes ..

be cool and dont force the issue
