Because they are both owned by Yum! Brands which also owns Long John Silvers, A & W burger joints and Taco Bell. I think they also have a controlling interest in Pepsi.

KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Long John Silver's are all subsidiaries of Yum! Brands, Inc.
The restaurants are often co-branded or combined as express locations to maximize space and revenue potential. By fitting in the most popular selections from each restaurant in a space equivalent of one restaurant, these express locations can be highly successful.
There's a Dunkin Donuts/Pizza Hut/Taco Bell combination restaurant near my house in a space about as big as a traditional KFC restaurant. So if I ever wanted to, I can order a personal pan pizza, an empanada, and a coffee in the same drive-thru. :-P
