I can tell you exactly, I went via clapham from Brighton on Sunday and it cost me £21 exactly for a single adult fare. I remember it with clarity because I thought it was a complete and utter rip off, especially as there were no trains running from Clapham and I had to get a replacement bus service.
My advice is walk it.

A ridiculous amount of money! It's so much cheaper to take the national express coach. Fares start from only £3 for a single! And journey times aren't much longer than by train, just over two hours. Check it out.

You would be better off going to London Bridge and it goes straight there-they all go through Gatwick. Go after 9.30am and get a travelcard for 2 adults and 2 children for 15.60 I think-It might have gone up by now though.

First. Billy your answer made me laugh (funny & nice)
London to Brighton
Ave Journey time 1hr25min
£13.50 (Single Journey)
But you get a cheap day return for the same (£13.50) if the return is after 2030hrs same day

I am not sure but if you go on
central trains or virgin trains
or who ever you are travelling with ring them up and they will give you a price
or go to your local train station and they will help you
good luck and have a nice trip x

http://www.thetrainline.com lets you find out train prices on the net, http://www.megabus.com is a lot cheaper than train and all other coach comapnies, if you book a couple of weeks in advances then it will be £1 each way and a 50p booking fee,
