Probably the most coveted are the Cuban Cohibas. They are fantastic, as I find some everytime I go to the Carribean or out of the country, as the US still has an embargo against Cuba. You can bring them into the country as long as you take off the bands and don't bring along any trace that that they are Cuban. There are a few websites that will mail them to you from outside of the US, but they are expensive.

In the United States, the best cigar I've found is the Arturo Fuente Opus X. It is wonderful, but VERY hard to find. They only make a small amount each year, and the distribution of them is quite limited.

If you want to go with a cigar you can pretty much find in any cigar store, the Montecristo Double Corona is always a good bet. It's of high quality, has a great medium taste, and will only set you back about $10-$13 each.

In the end, it really depends on what YOUR tastes are, just like fine wine, but the above are just some ringers for you. Email me if you'd like to continue the discussion.

Cigar Dave has a Saturday radio station here in Tampa because Tampa is the cigar capital of the USA (cuban cigars), from what I'm told. He would know the answer. Everyone has different tastes and choices, so who is to say if it is "best" or not. If it's "best" for you then it's "best" I guess.

Beware than Cuban myth. Honduran, Dominican, and others are as good. A reputable shop that cares will tell you this. Also, off-brand or no-brands can be great. Find a shop with decent volume (Wine House in Los Angeles) and they buy direct, at a very good price. There are about a dozen "classic" brands that are hard to beat: Partagas, Cohiba, Dunhill, etc.. with much banter I'm sure. Also be aware of WHAT YOU LIKE. Smaller ones can be great. No reason to overspend, especially if you are not familiar.

I really tike Montechristos, but everyone's tastes are different.

Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigar for most of the most popular kinds, with loads of info.

If you're buying for yourself, and you're new-ish to cigars, try something fairly cheap first, and keep moving up until you don't notice the difference anymore. £8 cigars are just fine for me, but some people claim that £200 ones are "immeasurably" better; true, in that I can't measure it.

Have fun, whatever you do.

The one's you enjoy the most my favourites are Monte Cristo n1
but it is a very personal matter of taste. Like wine it is not necessari ly the most expensive you will enjoy the most nor the cheapest that will disgust you (though the latter is likely if you are really into cigars.
