Confusing question!

South Africa is a country. It has two countries within it's borders Lesotho (the largest) and Swaziland.

As far as Africa as a whole is concerned South Africa is the largest country in the South. Congo the largest in the centre and Algeria the largest in the North.

Sudan is the largest in Africa. Algeria is the second largest. Democratic Republic of Congo is the third largest. South Africa is a country in Southern Africa, and is the largest for that region.

The question should be asked: "What is the largest country in southern Africa?"

South Africa (note that the name of the country is capitalized!) is a country. The correct answer would be "South Africa" or better said the Republic of South Africa.
