She is a singer songwriter and currently plays a Tanglewood (not sure which model) - I play a Taylor 914 ce. I have never played her guitar, she seems to like it - however recently the guitar was damaged and needs to be replaced. I would get her a Taylor personally, but I'm not sure how different a feel it has to the Tanglewood. Should I be boring and buy her the same model she had- or try something new...? Open to suggestions, baby taylors, martins, whatever.... tks

Why not get her one there? I don't know Tanglewoods and if you play a 914, you KNOW the personal feel of a guitar, the action, the sound, the feel. Take her to a big shop in the UK and have her try 'em out. Not knowing your budget or her preferences, you should really have her pick it. How bout this, hand her your 914 and say "It's yours". She'll (hopefully) know how much it means to you and refuse, then you can take her to a shop and pick one out. Then again you can match the woods of the Tanglewood with a good Taylor and take your chances. I, like you, say you can't go wrong with Taylor, and you'll pay a premium in the UK for American, there aren't too many good European brands from what I know...Good Luck

This is very difficult. Two guitars, the same make and model can feel and play very differently. In my opinion, the best thing would be to take her out and get her to choose an instrument herself. I know this would not give you the "surprise" factor, but that way she gets an instrument she will love.

If your girlfriend really loves her guitar, you should continue to buy another Tanglewood. Otherwise, try Yamaha types. You can never go wrong with that.

My husband bought me a Fender and I love it.....but it sounds like your gf. is not a beginner...I am a beginner. I have also heard all sorts of opinions of what guitar is the better brand and honestly, it is so mixed that I think it is a matter of personal preference. Why don't you set her up? Have a friend that doesn't play acoustic guitar act like he/she is interested in getting into it....then have that friend ask her all these questions about purchasing one....that outta' get tons of info out of her...good luck! What a sweet boyfriend!

I would get the best one i could afford. Martins are expesive but great guitars. I dont think she would mind having something new if its good quality.
