In Tibetan, the word 'yak' refers only to the male of the species; a female is a 'dri or nak'. In most languages which borrowed the word, including English,'yak' is usually used for both sexes.

There is no yak milk since the yak is male. The female is called nak. But since not everyone knows that, a made-from-nak-milk label would involve a lot of explanation. So we decided to call it yak milk soap."

Just like cattles,yaks were also called bull for the male and cow for the female.Just a little info,yaks are geneticly linked to a goat/sheep family and not a cattle.
