Hiya :-) ! Since there are many people who also celebrate Samhain today (I think :o) ), can you please tell me what your favourite songs and/or tunes in "Celtic" music are? I just love Celtic music and mine are, amongst others, "Coinleach Glas an Fhomhair" by Clannad, "November" by the Breton group Glaz and "Mummer's Dance" by Loreena McKennitt.

Will post this in "Society and Culture - Mythology and Folklore" too if you are interested... as I am very much :o) . Lots of thanks and Have excellent days :-) !!!

An Mhaighdean Mhara by Altan. It's a beautiful haunting melody sung in Gaelic and is based on an ancient story about a mermaid who marries a man, has children with him but is then called back to the sea leaving her family behind. The whole album is magical (Island Angel), but this song stands out for me.

As for tunes, I love "The King of The Faeries", great energy and passion in that tune.

Samhain Eve, in Irish and Scots Gaelic, Oidhche Shamhna, is one of the principal festivals of the Celtic calendar, and is thought to fall on or around the 31st of October. It represents the final harvest. In modern Ireland and Scotland, the name by which Halloween is known in the Gaelic language is still "Oíche/Oidhche Shamhna". It is still the custom in some areas to set a place for the dead at the Samhain feast, and to tell tales of the ancestors on that night.

The music I love to hear in this vain is the fiddles. A great piece to be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2tj_zC_XX4

My favorite album as I've almost worn it out, is 'Celtic Mist' by Lesa MacEwan, Scarlet Rivera, and Tommy Eyre. 'Madeleinne's Lullaby' is my favorite song on this album, my favorite, period. This collection of songs is typical of mystical Celtic music.
