Americans do many weird things ;-)
they attack countries of their own chosing, for no good reason, and squander 100bn doing it, not to mention killing tens of thousands of civilians, and thousands of their own young.
they pollute, per unit of GDP, about twice as much as the rest of the rich countries, suggesting HUGE inefficiencies in the way they use energy - but apparently they couldn't care less
why then should one be surprised that they should be pretty much the only large country in the world to be using such a uselessly complex and backwards measurement system?
it's too bad though, because the U.S. has so many good sides, including a great entrepreneurial spirit.

I know. Things that are different make you mad.
However, in the USA, they do teach the metric
system now days, as well as the old system of
gallons, quarts, pounds, and feet. There are a
lot of signs and books out there that will have to
be changed to completely change over to metric.
I don't think they want to do that.

Cause the metric system sucks. We do things a little different over here. We are a bunch of rebels. They said "How can we stick it to the rest of the world?" The answer is "Use the metric system!!"

Because Americans are stubborn and proud. If they were to change to the metric system, they would be giving in to the rest of the world, which would make them look weak.

Too expensive. Why don't you replace all those speed limit signs, for starters.
Nevertheless, it is widely used, just not so much by the general population.
It's not really the metric system anymore. It's the S.I. system.
I'll let you look up the French words that S.I. stand for.

That is about as silly as me asking - Why won't the rest of the world convert to our measurement system?! That's SO annoying!

yeah a little hard at this point, but I definitely don't understand why we felt the need to adopt this crazy system of measurements and couldn't just go with everyone else

You drive on the right side of the road, we might think about changing to your outdated measuring system.

We suck at math. Changing anything to do with number even if it makes easier will scare the crap out of people.
