I don't think you can generalize here. The variables are too many. For example, are they "viewing" churches for the purpose of deciding on one to join? Are they looking with hostile eyes because they have been treated badly by Christians? Is it a question of trying to understand from an academic sort of objectivity?

Personally, I don't bother to "view" them at all. I'd rather sleep in on Sundays.

I have never been in a church where I have seen or felt evil.
I consider the old churches to be very beautiful. They have a stateliness about them lacking in many new churches.
I also feel that those old churches which are darker are more conducive to individual praying. Probably because there is less to distract a person.
The Catholic, Episcopalion, Anglican, Luthern and Greek Orthodox churches are similar in many ways & I think there's a lot to be said for tradition. It's kind of neat to attend a church service & think that this is the way the apostles and the early church celebrated God. As for changing for modern times - well modern times aren't so
hot! I'd rather stick with God's word in the Bible when it comes to right and wrong.

An excellent and profound question. I have visited many churches here and abroad and it is my opinion that there is a great deal of evil in many of the older churches built in the middle ages and before. To many gargoyles on the outside. To dark. To smelly. Some have peculiar stained glass windows. Too many statues of saints, Mary, Joseph, Jesus, Paul, Peter. Churches aren't lighted but are dank and drab. Gives one a very Eire feeling. Where is the good? This isn't conducive to open hearted prayer and a feeling of goodness.

yes because a lot of mainstream religions have characteristics that are wrong and/or outdated. some desperately need to update.
--this is especially true when viewing a religion/church other than your own.

no, it may be evil to some people, but who defines what is truly evil and not? only the ONE true god can decide that. people should have an open-mind and discuss things peacefully.
