if you are planning to not have children, then it is advisable to always use protection - no matter what time of month it is.
all the calculations of 3 days before periods etc can go horribly wrong, especially because the woman's cycles may change and sperm can be alive in the woman's body for 4-5 days.
so its upto you to think if you want to take the risk of falling pregnant or not.

I've been told you're safe from pregnancy for the 3 days after your period, but it's always best to use some form of birth control if you don't want to get pregnant because some women, like lionesses, ovulate under stimulation. The human body is a curious thing.

Although it is rare to get pregnant during your period it IS possible because not all women's cycles are regular and so could ovulate soon after their period. Sperm can live in the vaginal canal/uterus for 3-5 days. And of course there is always the risk of STDs. ALWAYS use protection!

Your question is not too clear. I'm thinking that you are asking about the rhythm method. I wouldn't take the chance. Use a condom or get on birth control pills.

it depends on one's health. some go for a day, some 2,3,4 5 depending on oneself. This is on monthly basis. It may be regular or irregular meaning it may follow on regular dates or not on common dates. In case of climate change and health problems, one may find that some months you miss it, extend it or increase or reduce your usual days. Also diet may contribute much on this.
