You can find new at Dell and other places for under $500. If that isn't in the budget, just be careful of your used purchase. I have one that was given to me (used). I have had a few minor issues. Most with cleaning it out from all the junk software and programs loaded on it. If you buy used, be sure to get ALL software that came from manufacturer with your Laptop. ESPECIALLY recovery disc and running system Disc eg. windows XP. If too many problems you can strip down and uninstall windows and run new windows program. Basically start it from scratch. Barring any hardware issues. Luck of the draw I am afraid. Good Luck.

for value for money, youre prob better off buying a new laptop at the cheaper end of the market, rather than a used one. Technology moves so fast nowadays, that a used laptop will prob have much lower specs than a new more basic laptop, try dell, their prices are very reasonable

Sort of like buying a car.......you could end up with someone's problem. New laptops can be rather inexpensive since you evidently won't be needing 'all those extras' - and it will be 'clean'. Happy Marketing!

iits always better to buy a newer one as there are many new models and technical advancements are in market.
Actually u think if u need it strongly ,your work is affected by its absence or by this u can improve your career then go for a newer one according to your budget and requirement otherwise if u think u can work without it and its not so necessary then wait for sometime for enough money in hand ,BUT PLEASE GO FOR A NEWER ONE
COZ PROBABLY TODAY U CAN SAVE MONEY BY A SECOND HAND BUT WHO KNOWS TOMORROW U HAVE TO SPEND MORE ON MAINTENANCE.
