It is very easy to give advice, but to listen to it or take it ourselves is difficult.
From far you will have a different simpler perspective of any situation, whereas when you are in difficulties you know the full situation and you have all the people to consider around you.
Most importantly you are worried, what will other people think of you? It is easy to say words but to act often requires a lot of courage.

"Can't see the forest for the trees" or something like that.
When you find your self in 'that' situation it is very difficult too emotionally and mentally distance your self enough from what is going on around you too see that your choices are misguided.
In 'those' situations you are very often forced to make desisions on information that is both time urgent and in complete and/or in accurate.
It's normal.
In the military they try too correct for this by setting officers 'outside' the situation. The idea is that they will then be able too obeserve the hole thing from a better perspective.
This make scense so far?
Going with the 'military' option on this question.... The grunt on the ground may then recieve orders that don't make even a bit of scence too him. But he can't see the whole picture because he is emotionally and mentally involved in the picture.
And thus! I am able too give great advice but can't take it!
I appologize too everone for the crappy analogy.
Hope this helps.

Objectivity – External perspective gained at the cost of experience, tempered perhaps with similar attributes of schizophrenic or Bi-polar characteristics.
Without Emotion – All issues are material and of tangible substance, therefore within reasonable contemplation and resolution, that is without procrastination and doubt, based on experience or inferred experience.
Experience – Introspection with experience allows distinguishing the forest for what it is, and not the trees that make the whole. At the same time, differentiating the trees that make the forest allows specific cause attribution to be identified, enabling the overall self diagnosis to be tailor made.
Illusions – A reason without, placing false pretexts to confound analysis and contemporary reasoning.
Will and Discipline – Habits die hard. Intrinsic change is not commonplace in most peoples’ lives.
Small changes built on fundamental change is perceived in the small alteration (of lifestyle and being) and enacted routinely. Small alterations becomes public proclaimed misnomers of life changes and self reinforced.
Recognition in the shift of intrinsic and fundamental values and subsequent enactment is real change. Routine is substituted with something different and new.

good question! it's easier to give advice than actually doing it because you speak from a theoretical point of view, with best intentions you tell that person what would be the best thing to do *in principle*.
acting on that is usually more difficult because situations are more complex and finding the courage to do the right thing is a little tricky

I think we don't follow our own advice because it's staring us right in the face, or because we like to bang our heads against the wall! LOL!~
