I graduated from college back in '88 with a B.A. in English lit. I am now looking to study something more sturdy and checked into an on-line university that wants $494 per credit hour. Am I completely out of the loop or is that the going rate? I prefer to study on-line, as I live in a small town. I am now interested in business accounting to help my and my husband's small business.

Woah, that's high! I think if you look at online universities such as Cappella or the University of Phoenix, you will be more inclined to see higher prices. Instead, you should look at online course offerings at the universities and even the community colleges in your state.

For a state school it's about $300 a credit. For a private school, you can triple that. An average online class will be about $1,000.
