no you can get a Panasonic DMR-E85H DVR/DVD Recorders, which doesn't need a service It gets a TV guide and lets you chose what to record.

There is no DVR/DVD recorder. If you have a dvr or tivo (which yes needs active service) you can record from a dvr to your dvdr.

I know that in the UK, you can get Hard Disk/DVD Recorders, which doesn't need a service. It gets a TV guide via the digital TV signal, and lets you chose what to record.

Other just record what you see, but don't allow you to use a On Screen TV Guide to chose what to record.

However, I use SKY +. This is a subscription based service, but I feel its worth every penny.

there is not something like observing a recreation stay yet even as i'm in college and a recreation is being performed, I TiVo them.
