Yes 13 year olds tend to think that their grown up just because there's a teen at the end of their age so i dont think it's normal for a 13 yr.old to even want to hang out with a 8 yr old unless something sneaky's going on.

This is a situation that bears watching. However i wouldn't go jumping to too many conclusions. Not all 13 year olds are trouble makers. It is possible that this could be a big sister-little sister type relationship. Try to get to know the 13 year old and assess whether or not she is a responsible individual. My daughter had a few friends that were 4 or 5 years older than her and treated her like a little sister. So this could be a positive thing, but be vigilant.

I think a five year age gap at this age is too much. They are at totally different stages of growing up and I think 13 years is too old for your daughter to hang out with just now.

I would certainly start asking what they are doing. Is the 13 year old immature? If so you have nothing to worry about. If not time to halt some visits and find out what she is teaching your daughter.

Your cautious and alert and that is good. We all know what girls do at that age and you want yours to be upfront with you should any circumstances change. So just make sure that you keep a freindly and most happy communication with your daughter because that is the most important element at this stage of things.

Is does not sound like she is "constantly" hanging out, sweetie. I think that there is an underlying ulterior motive to your concern for the simple fact that it is a family member of your ex-husband's new wife. Get over it.....you will surely loose this battle.

I would wonder why a thirteen year old would want to spend that much time with an eight year old. Most teens I know don't want anything to do with kids that young. Why doesn't she have friends her own age?

my daughter is 10 and used to hang out with the neighbor girl next door to my moms who was 13... i cut that off quickly...they are too young to be with a girl that age... they will know stuff before it is time... You need to cut that off quickly too..
