Be prepared for the person who doesn't want to talk about it then. Tell them, "I just want you to know I care."

Look your friend in the eye when talking. Smiling, touching and warm looks all convey affection.

Ask how you can help. Be specific: caring for the children, preparing a meal, a ride to the doctor's office, running errands. A

Ask your friend to make a list of specific things that need to happen and then coordinate with other friends and family members to accomplish those things.

Remember "Quiet" is better than empty words. Your presence shows you care.

You make a face like you just got really scared all of a sudden, you know like big wide open eyes and your mouth open like "uh oh" and then you say really slowly "Something's not right..." then let out the biggest loudest fart that you can and say "Ah that's better."

Stare into space and when everyone focus on you, let a drop of drool run down your chin. It will bring a laugh and something new to talk about. :-)
