I fall somewhere in the middle but plan to vote Democratically this election.

I'm studying modern history this semester and was surprised to learn that the Democrats were actually the party that supported most of the southern states during the Civil war and held most of the Confederate positions. The Republicans (carpetbaggers) were actually the party that was responsible for the abolition of slavery.

I found this very interesting. Doesn't change my current opinions about the Republican party (mostly the Radical Wrong), but still sparked my interest.

I think the road would be much to bumpy to use republicans.. there has to be some other way that they can be of use to society.
