Have used both AMD and Intel - will not revert to Intel wherever possible.
At ever step, AMD continues to match then top Intel - thus the dirty tactic Intel often employs to bully manufacturers into being Intel exclusive...the reason AMD has taken this long to bite into the market-share apple
Intel continues to remain over-priced for the average performance they deliver

People don't seem to notice you are not asking about the companies in general, you are asking about two specific processors, one from each company. In this case these two particular processors will perforam almost identically. So, it really comes down to which is cheaper.
While in general Athlons are better than Pentium 4s, you have a low end Athlon and a mid-high end Pentium 4, hence they about equal out. So it is basically which one is cheaper.

I'm not sure why you are comparing a more modern Intel processor with an older AMD processor. I have always preferred AMD over Intel, especially with laptops. But to answer your question the Pentium 4 is going to run faster.
The answer before mine is not true. Additionally from my experience I have found that AMD's PowerNow! technology works much better than what Intel offers.

Price is a keyword in the choice between AMD and Intel here! I switched to building systems with AMD processors because of price 10 years ago and havent had a failure yet! Their will be a small difference in speed in your choice of processors but if it were me, I would look for an AMD with close to the same clock speed and you will find its 20 percent cheaper!
P.S. I would be interested in knowing mathews mobo number! I have yet to see a mobo with an Intel and AMD processor on the same board!

simply the answer is AMD processors are faster and better than pentium processors the reasons are
1. AMD DCA Architecture(on die mmy controller) over Pentium's old FSB architeture
2.AMD has more L1 cache than pentium
L1 faster than L2 cache
3. Less cost than p4
better go for AMD

there are a lot of things to consider if you want to compare them such as the cache mem, FSB, socket, compatibility, power consumption, price, etc.
but for the overall, i think, AMD is really a value

This is going to sound weird but I have both of them the exact ones you are talking about in my computer. Both of them at the same time. I thought they were two different things when I bought it. I guess my PC has two processors or something. This is freaking me out because I am reading my PC right now!

its a 50/50 that the bios assist you to run a twin middle cpu. yet ya, its a great distinction. what laptop are you working? think of of it as 2 lanes of site visitors vs one lane of site visitors.
