Speakers and microphones are similar in terms of sound productions. Speakers give out sound while microphones "absorbs" sound. In other words, speakers are for sound outputs while microphones are for sound inputs.

Microsoft Word and Windows Explorer are similar in terms of the company's product. They all come from Microsoft.

Microsoft Word and Windows Explorer are also similar in terms of the function. Both allows you to access the common menu commands such as File, Edit, View, Tools, etc.

Another thing that Microsoft Word and Windows Explorer are similar is that they allow you to store multi-types of file types. Take for example, Microsoft Word allows you to import files from another program such as Photoshop, Excel, PowerPoint, images, etc and store in the Word document. Similarly in Windows Explorer, it simply just store all the files.
