White-ees are much better. I grew up in the midwest and there is a much more distinct taste on the white castle bun and burger. I have eaten Krytal burgers several times while working in Atlanta and I was tempted to try them and did so with the hope that they were identical or better than White-ees but they were not. The Krystal bun is more fluffy it seems and does not soak in the fried onion grease/juice like the white-ee bun, and thus for some reason, does not have as rich a taste as the White-ee. I agree that in a pinch, Krystal can be substituted for White Castle, but hands down, when it is late at night, the first choice, is always a white-ee. Plus for some reason those processed Chocolate shakes at White-ees and the Onion Rings are the best ever! Who would have thunk it.

Similar maybe in their preparation, but not in their taste. I've tried both and think they are distinctly different.
Both steam the buns with the grilled onions, but the bread and meat on a White Castle taste very different to me (better), but that's likely because I grew-up in the Midwest and only had White Castle versus Krystal that I believe was mostly in the Southeast US.
Someone tasting an original Krystal and White Castle (slider) side-by-side for the first time could probably not tell a huge difference, but after you've eaten a few hundred in your lifetime, you tend to know the difference :-)
In a pinch, a Krsytal would be a reasonable substitute or vice-versa.
I think White Castle came out first however in the 1920's and then Krystal followed 10-20 years later.
Next debate: Krispy Kreme versus Dunkin Donuts...

Krystal's is just a cheap copy of the real thing. White Castles.
They are similar, but the taste is much different. WC is DEFINITELY better!

White Castles hamburgers do taste good but they are high in fat besides calling them sliders they are called gut bombers here too. When we say do you want to go to Gut Bombers it means White Castle. They pass right through just as your friends say.

yes :) at least in size and shape, and they both come in a box. i am not sure on the taste - i have never tried a krystal burger.
