More RAM and a new hard drive. Ideally, add at least a 256MB stick of RAM to that 128. You'll triple your RAM in one shot giving an instant boost. Replace your aging 20GB drive with a new 80GB 7200RPM IDE drive for a little more zip. RAM first though.

Normally I would say 128MB of ram is not enough and you should upgrade to 512 MB,especially if you're running XP which eats a lot of the memory, the problem is,you can buy this days a new computer with what you're going to spend on upgrading, plus you'll still will wind up with a computer that will become obsolete and your 20 GB nowadays is not enough for storing your music, movies, pictures, games and all the programs around today.Sams Warehouse Stores have good powerful and reasonable computers, and the price you see is the price you pay, none of this rebate crap everyone else advertises

The easiest is to add memory. WinXP likes 512MB of RAM If you want better video performance you might get a different video card, a card with more video memory will give you a bit of improvement in frame rates for games.
But if you want high performance on new games. Then the only solution is to drop $2000 on a new system.
Upgrading your machine is pretty much a lost cause.

Yikes an Emachine :-)
LOL it can still run faster
Remove all programs you don't use.
Keep the Internet cache clear
Empty temp folders for all programs regularly or set them to dump within 72 hours (if you save often)
I personally think its cheaper and easier to get a new PC from DELL at their online clearance site. With the money you save go to SEARS eBay clearance site and buy a digital camera lol

your computer configuration seems to be pretty old. u need to buy a whole set of cabinet, mother board, Processor, add more 128 or 256 ram (you can add only if ur old ram is DDR if it is SD then it is a waste.) I suggest u sell this to any buyer and update the whole CPU. 120 GB hard drive is a better thing to buy nowdays.
donot try to upgrade the same machine it does not make any sense.

the easiest physical upgrade to do is to get more RAM, which serious affects performance. otherwise, i would just get a new machine, as celeron processors are way behind the pack now...
If you are using Windows XP, there are a number of tweaks which you can perform to get better performance out of your PC, depending on your requirements.
Many of these are very easy to do and can significantly speed up your system, particularly if you have a lot of unnecessary programs running in the background (loading with windows on startup).
For information on how to tweak your XP machine for optimal performance, go to:
http://www.podcomplex.com/pc/index.html
this will guide you through the main system tweaks for XP, including:
- set pagefile size
- set visual effects
- drive indexing
- startup programs
- tweakUI
- write caching
- spyware/adware
- disk defrag

You should definately buy more ram for it 128 mb is not much at all even for a 1.0 ghz processor. I would at least ugrade to 256 if not 512 mb. If that still doesn't help you, I would just buy a new computer, 1.0 ghz isn't much for processing power and most likely your computer is not going to accept much of a processor upgrade. Good luck

sounds like the avg 2000 computer. heres the basics of the matter. anything lower than 2 ghz is slow, anything under 512mb is slow, and anything under 30 gb is just bad. but to make what you have faster already, dont let everything run at once. only have a few things running.

Dont waste your money on upgrades, you will spend more money than you would buyin a new PC and not gain much in speed anyway! At best, buy more ram.

Adding some more RAM will really boost up the performance!
Try adding 256MB or if u can afford, 512MB. Because 1GHz processor is not bad at all.
