You'll probably never be in law enforcement, but most private employers overlook small stuff, once you explain it.

It might. How long ago did this occur? If it happened while you were a juvenile and are now an adult, no, it doesn't show up on your record because juvenile records are sealed. If it just occurred, you might have problems, depending on the type of work you are applying for. Maybe not, though, because many businesses have cameras and if they see you stealing, you're history anyway.

Many applications gives you the opportunity to add anything about yourself, so you might consider doing this or even talking to perhaps the manager of a store and explain the situation and see what he/she says. Imagine all stores will have different policies. All you can do is ask.

If you were under 18 when you committed the crime, then you are safe. Your juvenile record is expunged when you turn 18. If you were over 18 then it will hurt your job app. hopefully not too much. You can still get most jobs if that was the only thing on your record, but be prepared to do some crafty explaining at interviews.

Shoplifting is petty larceny in most states and not really a big deal. It may hurt your chances to get a job where you have to handle other people's property because a shoplifting charge shows a tendancy to steal to employers.

I don't know any other details. I would imagine you could get that expunged but it depends on when it was and how you pleaded.

One time means nothing. If you have more than one or it establishes a pattern then you are in trouble. Everyone screws up. If asked, admit it and have an apologetic story together about the incident
