My best friend has some conditions that are puzzling her and I don't know to help her. She started putting on weight so I joined the gym with her to help her try to lose. She is very committed and works out on avg of 5x/week. Well now she has started losing A LOT of hair. It's not that noticible to me but she says her beautician has said something about it. She also has bleeding gums. Sometimes when we are talking she says she tastes the blood in her mouth so it's not just when she brushes her teeth. She is very discouraged right now because obviously I am seeing results at the gym and she isn't and it's hard for her to stay motivated to go. With the other symptoms she has though I feel there is something else that has to be going on. She has been to the doctor who says it's not her thyroid. Any other ideas?

Putting on weight, losing hair and bleeding gums.... it sounds like your friend is having a systemic disease. Try to do blood investigation to rule out any autoimmune disease. Lupus is one of the diseases.

She has been to the doc but he didn't give her a diagnosis or run more tests? Something is going on that needs to be checked out by a doctor and if her doctor isn't willing to help her figure out what is going on then she needs to see another doctor. The bleeding gums could be a sign of gingivitis so she should also see her dentist. Encourage her to get a thorough workup and to see her dentist about the bleeding gums.

As other answerers have suggested, get to a doctor and have take a complete history and blood workup. While you are doing that get a bottle of multivitamions with minerals.A very strict restrictive diet can be missing essential vitamins and minerals. Long term lack of vitamin c can cause bleeding of the gums. Many metabolic deficiencies can cause hair loss. Vitamins will not cause problems so there is no problem taking them but do get to that doctor. Very strict diets should be monitored by a medical practitioner.
Hope your problems clear up soon.
Good luck,
Doc. Dan.

Wow. I am absolutley puzzled. At first I was going to say it was an imbalance with her Cortisol level, but I have never heard of that causing bleeding gums.

Her best bet would be to go to a doc and get checked for her Cortisol levels. Hopefully that would be it, because that can be corrected.

Good luck!
