The stove is in the wall seperate from the range. The range works and she said that is all she has to supply a tenant under New York law. They are both gas if that matters at all.

It would seem to me that both should be working. You should check with your local agency to find out the requirements. A landlord will tell you anything if they think they will get away with it.

If you had a free standing range there instead the oven would need to be working so the wall oven should be no different.

Normally a "range" is the burners and the oven,
A set of burners alone normally would not meet requirements.

Esp since there is not space for you to furnish your own.

Not unless their rental or lease agreement specifies furnished cook stove with oven. Roy

What's the damn oven doing there then? I'd say you have a ruthless landlady. She should have it repaired for you, I bet her oven is working just fine.

Contact your local government office and see what the landloard must supply. I would bet both are required.
