My husband thinks it looks stupid, but I have seen so many adverts out there showing men wearing normal t-shirts (not a-frame or v-neck) under v-necks. Is this how ppl are wearing them now?

It's in.
I wear it that way sometimes myself. Like a white t-shirt under a dark color v-neck. Or I'll just let the cleavage show other times and not wear one at all underneath.

I think it looks fine, can`t imagine a man wearing a v-neck sweater, especially a woolen one, without a t-shirt underneath. As far as a pullover v-neck shirt, I don`t think a t-shirt is necessary, but its the wearers choice since its of little importance appearance wise. Much like a woman wearing her shirt tucked in or hanging out...little importance to others, only to how comfortable she feels.

It's not a bad look, but to really make it look nice, buy a couple of ribbed undershirts. Their usually $5 or $6 at Target or some other retailer, but they look a lot nicer than plain white Hanes shirts. Also, using a complementary color undershirt can really pull the outfit together. I'll wear a ribbed black undershirt with a light blue sweater and black dress pants. Buy him a couple nicer undershirts just to wear under V-necks and it'll look great.

I like the look, in fact, I'm wearing it now! I'm wearing just a white Hanes t-shirt under my charcoal wool v-neck sweater now, but normally I would use the t-shirt color to compliment the look. Plus, becuase you only see a small pice of color, I will be bold with the color choice.
