Percentage of Discount = ((Regular Price - Saleprice)/Regular Price)*100
= ((250-150)/250)*100
= 40

40% off

250-150=100 (the difference in the full price and what you're paying)

100/250 (this can be reduced by dividing the top and bottom number by the common factor 10)

10/25 (more reducing but this time by 5)

2/5 So you're discount is 2/5 of the original cost. what percentage is 2/5?

divide 100 by 5 = 20
you have 2 units of 5 so you have 40
so 2/5 of 100% is 40 and 40% is your discount.

Dear Flakizz: If you divide $150.00 by $250.00 you get .60%.
So, what part is $150 of $250 ? It's 60 percent of it.

Now, you have your percentage figure. If you multiply $250.00 by .60% - the total is $150.00 - the price you have actually paid. Therefore, your discount was 60% off the normal price.

Rule of thumb: When you do NOT have a percentage figure, you FIND IT by dividing into the smaller figure with the larger figure. This gives you the percentage.

Then proof it by taking the normal price and applying the percentage - through multiplication : $250.00 X .60 = $150.00 for your Total.
