Depends on breed, age etc. And depends on where you live...cows are being sold very cheaply here at the moment because of the drought. You've also got to look at things like whether you want her purely as a pet, or if you plan to get her in calf and milk her.

An adult cow will probably cost you upwards of $400-$500, but you need to beware of cows that are put through the saleyards...they're usually there for a reason (subclinical mastitis, bad temperament, poor producers, etc.) You can buy calves for less than this though.

And as 'iwish40' said, that's before you get into feeding and health bills- if you haven't got good enough pasture to maintain her, you need to supplement feed. Cattle also need drenching and vaccinations, and they do get sick and injure themselves.

'SUE H'...there's no such thing as a 'male cow'...a male BOVINE is a bull or steer.

A cow costs alot of "MOO-lah" JUST JOKING.
If you live near a farm stop by and ask the farmer, I'm sure the farmer would be glad to tell you everything you need to know about rasing a cow.
Or if your school has the course FFA (Future Farmers Of America) you could go ask that teacher.
Stop by a feedstore and they can tell you how much Feed and Hay will cost.
Cows eat a lot and they need lots of room to roam around with plenty of grass.
Also, don't forget VET bills are expensive!
If you ever need a vet and you will, your vet will have to come out to your place and thats makeing House calls.
Cause you can't take your cow to the vet in your car/truck/or van.

There is no such thing as a male cow, they are called Bulls, a female is a cow. It depends on where you live and the market price. Calves are cheaper than a full grown one. But, cows and bulls do not make good pets.

That depends on the size. You normally figure paying $0.60 to $0.80 per pound at auction for calves. Some of the larger ones may go for a little less per pound.

it depends what type of cow you want, if you buy a male cow it will be a lot cheaper then a female. because the male will not produce milk.
