when speaking of an pet, what is a PITA?

The word is as spelled, it is not PETA, it is PITA and that is the word I need to know what it means, i think it means bit*h, but not sure. thanks in advance

PITA is an abbreviation for "pain in the a**", and does not just refer to pets but any annoyance in general.
